  1. Well, Amir respects his father highly but wants his approval and love. When Baba was at the grand opening of the orphanage and his hat blew off and he got Amir to hold it for him, Amir was so proud to do so, simply because everyone would know he was Babas son. Baba however feels very confused about his son, they have nothing in common and hes frustrated about how he never defends himself, hes worried about how he will be as a man when he grows up.

  3. The relationship between Amir and his father is strained. Amir feels as if Baba is dissapointed in him because he does not enjoy soccer or poetry. He sees his father as a patient man with everyone but him. Baba considers Amir to be the opposite of himself, he even says " If I had not seen my wife give birth to him myself, I would not have believed him to be mine". He sees the kids bully Amir and he's upset Amir does not stand up for himself. He loves him but has a hard time understanding Amirs gentle state of mind.

  4. Amir respects, idolizes, fears and hates him a little bit. "You can't love a person who lives that way without fearing him too.Maybe even hating him a little." Amir is always looking for his fathers acceptance. Amir feels his father is too busy for him and that he hates him. "After all I had killed his beloved wife..."

  5. Amir clearly respects his father, but is afraid of him at the same time. As are alot of young boys. But Amir is different in the way that he doesnt take after his father at all. " If I had not seen my wife give birth to him with my own eyes, I would not have believed him to be mine" He takes after his mother, always buring his head in books instead of watching sports, or playing them.

  7. Baba's relationship with Amir isn't that of a proud father. He is a fierce man, all-work-and-no-play. He allows Amir to fear him. Amir tries too hard to be like his father when he knows deep down he has his mother's spirit and shares the same passion for poetry she had. In my opinion Amir has become much like his mother to keep her alive for him, since he only knows of her through stories he can imagine that the poetry is the key to feeling her closely watching over him and by holding the same books she once held he shares a secret bond with her.
Baba has hardened his heart, again in my opinion, I think this is to aviod comforting his son because it'd show weakness in himself. Death comes to all, we're born, we live, we die. Cold hard fact of life. Baba can feel sorrow I have no doubt, but he does so in his own way. He has years of life experience over Amir and Im sure he resents his son in some way. Baba does reach out to Amir with a trip out one-on-one, they're few and far between. I think this is the guilt that pushes himself to try and love his son the way his wife would have expected him to.

Both father and son are fighting a losing battle.

  8. Amir loves his father very much, However he feels unwanted like he doesnt fit in, and isnt what his father is looking for in a son. He is looking for acceptance from his father and understanding. Baba feels he is unsure about his son because, they have nothing in common. Amir doesnt the things Baba did when he was a child, making him question him as his son. Baba sees other children bully amir and amir doesnt defend himself making Baba nervous that he will never become a man.
